The vest is sexy but if this is true, I’m kind of upset. I mean, the Doctor’s style is iconic in a way. Like when the Tenth Doctor got a second outfit, it still had to have the same style - the same silhouette, because the outfit is a part of who he is. I respect that the show changes and evolves through time, but I’m having difficulty with this one, simply for the fact that keeping the Doctor in his one outfit is tradition. I am all for switching things up (Ten in a tux, for example), but each Doctor has one outfit that is his.
The Doctor has lost so much, and he has never changed his style before now.
I don’t know, it just seems like Moffat is looking for some other way to make the show ~his own~ and has decided that bowties are no longer cool or something.

HEY, FANDOM, I GET WHAT YOU’RE SAYING AND YES IT’S SAD AND EMOTIONAL THAT THE PONDS ARE LEAVING AND THAT THE DOCTOR IS CHANGING HIS OUTFIT FOR THIS REASON AND I’M GOING TO LET YOU FINISH BUT….

I’d say ^THAT^ was a way more intense change than a different jacket and a waistcoat/vest.
Basically, this is hardly the first time the Doctor has changed his outfit, usually in his last season as that particular incarnation. (yes, everyone, Matt Smith will eventually leave the show) In fact, Matt’s change isn’t really that big when you think about it. The red bowtie and button down remain. He’s still wearing a brown coat/jacket, it’s just a bit longer and heavier. (Baker wore a different coat practically every week!) The suspenders are probably still there under the waistcoat/vest. The hair is the same. The color palette is the same. I mean, in terms of visual differences and silhouette, Ten’s blue suit was actually a more striking change. (HUGE shift in palette and it fit him much more tightly)
I understand that everyone is having FEELS about the Ponds leaving and things changing on the show, and I am too….but the fact remains that this is just part of the show. That’s how it goes. Companions leave, costumes change, the Doctor moves on and has adventures for fifty more years. I know people like to feel as though the Doctor had something with the Ponds that he never had with anyone else, that they were different, that this was the most important thing that ever happened to him….but guys, all of his companions are basically equal in the grand scheme of things, remember.
I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU’RE ALL COMING FROM. Change on this show is hard as hell. We all get very attached, especially those who happen to be new fans, but I think we have to take a step back and remember that THIS IS DOCTOR WHO and he will always be getting new companions and regenerating because that is basically what the show is about.
I’m kind of off-topic now….but basically….I’m just really hoping that the fandom doesn’t go to hell (for too long anyway) with all of its feels after the Ponds leave. D: I really really really don’t want to face another situation like when David left.
